The Causes of Agoraphobia and how
The Linden Method Can Help

Agoraphobia causes the sufferer to experience a range of emotional and physical changes due to the anxiety or 'fight or flight' response. This response, when appropriate, is vital to the human survival instinct and prepares the body for action when it is confronted by a 'real' threat.

The causes of agoraphobia are very clear indeed. When we are confronted by a true threat, say a tiger, our subconscious minds step in to do a very fast 'risk assessment' of the situation at hand. This risk assessment involves making fast decisions of how best to minimise risk and how best to react under the circumstances. This is called 'safety seeking behaviour'.

Safety seeking during high anxiety when a real threat is present is entirely appropriate but the problem is that under the influence of an anxiety disorder, there is rarely ever a true threat present and the high anxiety is caused solely by inappropriate levels of anxiety. This safety seeking behaviour then manifests itself as protecting oneself from the anxiety itself and so the sufferer begins to create 'avoidance techniques' which may include:

Agoraphobia causes the sufferer to become very isolated in many cases and as anxiety levels rise, the agoraphobia sufferer's world becomes smaller and smaller as they place more restrictions on what they do in life in order to avoid high anxiety or what they perceive as anxiety provoking situations.

The causes of agoraphobia are clear but a sufferer will seldom understand or apply logic to their situation as waves of high anxiety fuel their fears, which fuels their anxiety levels, which causes symptoms, which reinforce the 'safety seeking' behaviours.

Anxiety disorder is not about true threat, it is therefore caused by a miscalculation and a reset of the small organ in the brain that causes anxiety and therefore causes agoraphobia. The Amygdala is a small organ in the brain which acts rather like an anxiety thermostat by regulating anxiety levels. When repeated anxious stimulation is received by the Amygdala due to, perhaps, stress, bereavement or other traumas, it can become reset at a higher than normal level. The mind thinks this is completely normal, but the symptoms, thoughts and sensations it causes feel so abnormal that sufferers know that something isn't quite right. The higher levels of anxiety they experience can quickly spiral into an anxiety disorder.

The cycle of symptoms causing anxiety, anxiety causing agoraphobia, agoraphobia causing anxiety is hard to break without very specific knowledge and tools.

"As I discovered The Linden Method which I used to remove the anxious habits which fuelled my anxiety disorder, OCD and agoraphobia, I also discovered that my agoraphobia would need to be addressed in a very structured way in order to send clear messages to my subconscious mind that its behaviour was inappropriate, anxiety provoking and damaging. I challenged my anxiety and my agoraphobia over 5 days and beat my agoraphobia completely and it is this knowledge that I bring to you as an agoraphobia sufferer"

Charles Linden

Agoraphobia causes sufferers to become isolated, frightened and frustrated but with my programme and the support and knowledge we offer, we have shown many tens of thousands of times, that we can cure anxiety and agoraphobia completely.

What causes agoraphobia sufferers most frustration is the sense that they are disrupting, not only, their own lives but also those of people they care about. There is nothing worse than feeling unable to travel, go out, socialise or move around as freely as you had previously and often sufferers also experience embarrassment or shame, especially whilst at work.

"I remember having to make excuses for not attending meetings, not going out with friends and eventually not leaving my flat. Everyone thought I was weak, timid and stupid or worse, mentally ill. I proved to myself and everyone around me that I was none of those things and within 5 days I was anxiety free and back at work. Change and recovery from anxiety and agoraphobia can happen so quickly but it is vital that structure and knowledge come together to create an environment for that change. We at The Linden Centres have helped over 115,000 people to walk their way out of their anxieties quickly and permanently and the technique is so simple, it will astound you. Our referrals from doctors, psychologists and the NHS directly show us that modern medicine is now recognizing that what we do works... of that I am very proud indeed."
