Anxiety Causes and Risk Factors
What are the causes of anxiety and what are the risk factors?
Many people believe that anxiety is caused by an event or experience and that the resultant condition is linked directly to that event; but, whilst an event can be the catalyst for the anxiety disorder, it is not one of the causes.
When we react appropriately with elevated anxiety in times of stress, sadness or after a potentially threatening event, the mind becomes altered to cope with the threat but returns to a normal level after the event; however, one of the risk factors of repeated rises of anxiety levels is that 'habitual' anxiety can be formed in the brain.
So, what causes anxiety?
In the brain is a small organ called the Amygdala. This organ behaves rather like an anxiety thermostat which calculates the risk or danger when it presents itself and reacts accordingly. This organ can become reprogrammed or reset at a higher than 'normal' level and when this happens, an anxiety disorder is formed.
Anxiety disorder carries no risk factors. Although sufferers may feel that they are at risk, they are not. The fear responses they experience are 'false fear', a reaction which is not based on truth, but on false information from the amygdala.
So, all of the sensations, symptoms and thought which plague anxiety sufferers are simply the creation of an anxious mind which make us experience the sensations of fear.
Is anxiety curable?
It is very possible to eliminate anxiety completely by reprogramming the amygdala to react more appropriately. Doing so will reduce the benchmark anxiety level back down to normal, allowing it to react appropriately when needed. This will of course mean that the sufferer will stop experiencing anxiety symptoms and all of the associated thoughts and concerns.
The Linden Method shows you what to do right now to quickly and permanently retrain the amygdala to react more appropriately. Structured, supportive and reassuring, our programme uses a targeted group of techniques, which are simple and fast, to re-program the subconscious mind.
